"A scrupulous writer, in every sentence that he writes, will ask himself at least four questions, thus:
1. What am I trying to say? 2. What words will express it? 3. What image or idiom will make it clearer? 4. Is this image fresh enough to have an effect?"

– George Orwell  (“Politics and the English Language”)

EDITING  SERVICES

Are you in need of an on-call editor for your emails, correspondence, reports, or other documents?
My editing services cover both copy editing and  more complex content editing.

Rates:
1. Copy editing – starts at US$6 per page ( 600 words and below, single space, font size 12)
Copy editing includes correcting problems in grammar, spelling, word usage and consistency of style. The actual rate may change depending on the initial quality of the draft and how much editing it will require.

2. Content editing – starts at US$8 per page (600 words and below, single space, font size 12)
Content editing involves a deeper type of editing besides making corrections and may include rewriting, rearranging, adding or suggesting more content. The actual rate may also change depending on the initial quality of the draft and how much editing and re-writing it will require.

WHY WOULD YOU NEED AN EDITOR?

1. Because you need a fresh perspective.
How many of us fall in love with our creations that we find nothing wrong with it? As what happens with a lot of written work, you sometimes spend a lot of time creating something that you often miss the mistakes that become tangled in it. These mistakes may include something as minor as spelling, something more significant like flow and organization of ideas, or something even bigger such as a plot hole, in the case of novels or stories. An editor will be your objective pair of eyes -- essentially your "faultfinder" who will comb through your work to point out and help you smooth out those bumps.

2. Because you might not be that comfortable using English as a (second) language, especially in writing
Note that I said above, "especially in writing." Writing is unfortunately unforgiving -- you commit a mistake and  the evidence will be staring right back at the reader. People can ignore errors in spoken language because it is done spontaneously, and there are some errors that are not obvious when words are being spoken out loud. For one, you don't spell words when you're speaking, so you can get away with being bad at spelling when you're speaking. In the case of writing though, you don't have that kind of shield, because you are making a visual composition.  Furthermore, in writing, you have the chance to review your words before you send it to your reader. Therefore, if you send a letter or other documents riddled with errors, it can only mean two things: either you did not make an effort to proofread your text, or worse, you really did not know your errors. Both scenarios are of course equally bad and speak of your attitudes and capabilities. These situations are preventable if you seek the help of an editor. That said, don't also expect your editor to be a substitute for a proper attitude or lack of capability. You have to understand how much your written work reflects on you and commit yourself to it. As for capabilities, look for ways to learn and improve your language skills if they need improvement.

3. Because you may get new ideas and further improve your work.
Yes, seriously. An editor may be a faultfinder but they will likely ask you questions that may turn new gears in your head, or point you towards unexplored ideas in your work. Editors are not just proofreaders. They may also take on the role of sounding board and adviser -- roles that are actually priceless and of more value to a client.

SAMPLE EDITS

Note: The sample paragraphs shown below have been edited mostly for grammar issues and with the purpose of staying as close in structure as the original text so as not to totally alter what the writer has previously written. There may be better alternatives or ways of expressing these ideas which would usually be discussed in a speaking lesson if the student so wishes.
1. Original text: I’m a night person. However I would like to be a morning person because some of my friends who are morning person says activating in the morning is more effective than in the night. I’m totally agree with them but I wouldn’t get up early. I wanna stay in my bed as long as time permit!

3. Original text: In this modern world, most of the cities and towns are always hectic and crowded, which gives stress to people in different ways. In such a situation, some people contend that planting trees is more essential instead of housing as it relieves people's minds. I concur with them since plants are always provide positive vibes for people. This essay will discuss the advantage of planning trees with two reasons and examples.
First of all, it is obvious that the tree purify the air by reducing the dust from transportation facilities (carbon gases) and construction sites. Therefore, air pollution will be minimized and people's health will improve. For instance, in most cities, a lot of suffer from pulmonary illness, and it's largely attributed to dirty air. If people plant more trees in the cities, it will be possible to reduce those sufferers from contamination and treat them with clean air.
